Crafts

The house of Karomi believes in fashion that is sustainable and contemporary and that opens a plethora of choices from Jamdani, Kantha and Block printing weaves and creates art that we can wear.

Weaving

The word Jamdani originates from Persia, jam translates to flower and dani translates to vase. This fabric finds mention in Kautilya’s Arthashastra from 3rd century BC as well as in the book of the Periplus of the Eritrean sea. The jamdani weave is highly labour intensive and the geometric designs are born out a rich fusion of Persian and Mughal art, though the art itself originated in the time worn landscapes of Bengal.

Kantha

Kantha in Sanskrit translates to rags. Its quintessentially a patched, vivid and quilted piece of cloth that was made entirely out of pieces of old cloth. Eventually the beautiful art form from Bengal has transcended the invisible borders of home and hearth and now adorn the wardrobes of the millennials in equal measure all over the world.

Hand Block Printing

Most of the ancient textile art is eco-friendly including this sustainable and authentic art form of hand block printing. Hand carved designs adorn the wooden or rubber blocks which are then dipped in colour and pressed on the natural fabric to produce a rustic and unique finish.
